Takes One to Know One

Takes one to know one, and I've certainly paid my dues.

I've always loved shootin on the streets. Even after I've been chased for a couple blocks I still went back to it. I didn't go back to the same spot (42nd+Lex) but I was hooked anyway from way-back. Talk-about an adrenalin rush. I have since covered the Nikon logo on my camera and made sure the logo on my strap was turned under before I 'make my witness' as it were. I didn't take the guys picture, he just wanted my camera I think.

When I started on the streets of Pittsburgh, in 1978, there were only us photo students out there shootin from the Art Institute. But most students didn't like it. Guess they had to feel safe behind a door of a studio instead of being 'out and about' in the elements of the unknown with only a shoe shine and a smile. And guess also that they had to feel comfortable with a schedule of what they were shooting that day and week as well as where their pay-check was coming from. I certainly concur, and have had to use one for the other and still have to do it. But it was always nice to run into another street photographer. To share stories, if they be 'horror' or not, and to bathe in the comradery of our passion. I don't have that now, and miss it from school. Thats why I started this blog. To bring us together so we can 'hang-out' man, and help each other out. I love hangin around talented people. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about those times in Pittsburgh.

And if you want to be a 'street photographer' it aint hard, but maybe you'd like to check-out my blog page on another blog I have:

I also wanted to let you know man the super place I found where you can publish your own picture books. Wish I had this place years ago. Not only can we produce a picture book for the coffee table in soft back and hard-back but also on pdf and an ebook with Apple's iBookstore ....very cool.
